We look to step beyond the everyday perspectives of a ship's senior staff, often digging into the below decks life even as we carry out our missions.
As a more loosely run simm, we also have room for a variety of of story and plotlines, including a base from which to write fan fiction.
In concept, Hatteras is a Watchtower-class Starbase that operates in the alternate reality where the planet Vulcan was destroyed when a Romulan ship came back in time and brought about its destruction.
Without Vulcan, how will history evolve? What changes will have occurred in the natural flow of the timeline?
How will the Federation evolve this time around?
Behind the scenes, we are a play-by-email writing unit with a team of players that come together to write stories interconnected through the common threads of the ship we write about.
At the core there exists the ship's senior staff. These writers make up the core of the ship, helping to push the story to the limit when writing about the progress of any of our given missions ... at least on the surface.
Beyond the missions with the 'fixed story arcs', we have a lot of plot threads that hang much looser as we seek to explore everyday life that exists aboard the starbase, the ships assigned it it and within the surrounding area.
Are we not writing about humanoids, and does not each have a separate personality?
And don't let the "fixed" in "fixed story arcs" throw you as this is a journey our crew takes as one ... our players often moved the stories into unexpected directions.
The key is to just keep it in line with the overall fabric of the unit and respect the other elements of our unit.
